Written Once, Followed Everywhere: The Guide Card Method

A field guide works because it does not renegotiate itself in the field. The entry was written once, carefully, and afterwards it is followed — not re-argued at every use. A character kept on a guide card gets the same discipline. Described from memory at every job, she is rewritten by whoever is tired, rushed or inspired that day. Written once and clipped inside the guide, she is simply read.

The entry holds five lines in fixed order. Age, stated plainly. Hair — colour, length, one habitual style. Build in two or three words. Face — one or two enduring details. Signature — the detail that identifies her in a tight crop. Below the entry, the day’s field line: outfit, setting, hour, light. That line changes with every sitting, exactly as it should; the entry does not change at all.

Working to the guide looks like this: open to the card, paste it word for word at the head of the prompt, generate at the standard 6 credits, judge the result against the entry, and only then let repairs, swaps and finishing tools take their turn — each of them opening the same guide first.

Consistency is not a gift some prompts have. It is a written method, followed without improvisation.
